Federal Programs
Title I of the Every Students Succeeds Act is a program administered by the United States Department of Education to distribute funding to schools and school districts with high percentages of students from low-income families. The federal government has reauthorized the Act every five years since its enactment. As mandated in the legislation, the funds are authorized to use to train educators, purchase instructional materials and programs, and support family engagement. Once a school receives Title I funds, it is regulated by a rigorous set of federal rules.
Students experiencing homelessness are not only welcome but embraced in the WPCSD. The district has policies and procedures to encourage full participation. Ms. Thompson, WPHS counselor, is the district's homeless liaison and McKinney-Vento coordinator.
